“By gutting Medicaid, repealing significant insurance protections, defunding Planned Parenthood, and expanding harmful abortion coverage restrictions, it would devastate women and families," said Debra Ness, president of the National Partnership for Women and Families.
The case involves a Colorado bakery cited by the Colorado Civil Rights Commission for discrimination after the bakery refused to bake a wedding cake for a same-sex couple.
“This decision is not only deeply upsetting for the rights of LGBT individuals living in Mississippi, but also for the protection of religious liberty in our country,” Roberta Kaplan, lead counsel for the plaintiffs, said in a statement.
The combination of invisibility and what others see as an illegitimate identity carries significant costs when it comes to resources, which compounds the damage.
“People living at the intersections ultimately are the ones who suffer under this bill, although again, I think we can’t forget that they’re coming for you if you have private coverage too."
