Kelly Castagnaro

IWHC

Kelly Castagnaro joined IWHC (International Women's Health Coalition) as Director of Communications Programs in April 2007. Kelly brings to IWHC a decade of management experience in communications, special events and community relations.

Prior to joining IWHC, she managed print and electronic communications and special events for a New York-based non-profit dedicated to ending homelessness. From 1997- 2004, Kelly worked for then-San Francisco Mayor Willie L. Brown, Jr. in community relations and as deputy press secretary, where she served as an official spokesperson to local, national and international press, and coordinated press and logistics for countless events including the Mayor's Summit for Women. Following her tenure with the Brown administration, Kelly was appointed as acting director for the San Francisco Taxi Commission, where she oversaw the agency's $1.3 million budget and all legislation and regulations pertaining to taxicab operations in San Francisco.

Kelly graduated Phi Beta Kappa in Journalism from the University of Oregon, Eugene, and speaks Spanish and Italian.

Our partners in Africa, Asia and Latin America have demonstrated courage, stamina, creativity, and resilience in the face of fierce opposition, guided by the conviction that no woman is free unless she has the right to make decisions about her own body. And, like any movement for social justice, the movement for safe abortion internationally has seen its ups and downs. But today as we celebrate the 37th anniversary of Roe, we must all recognize the importance of the ongoing movement for abortion rights worldwide, a movement that will require the dedicated efforts and support of women and men for years to come.

PEPFAR Politics vs. Public Health

As expected, the House wrapped itself in a big red bi-partisan bow when discussing PEPFAR, and Rep. Steny Hoyer said the bill shouldn't fall prey to "political sport." Here's hoping this weekend's Final Four is more competitive than the PEPFAR reauthorization ever was.
