In the name of fiscal responsibility, House Republicans suggest cutting teen pregnancy programs, the CDC budget, and Title X family planning. But, interestingly, they're bringing back funding for abstinence-only-until-marriage programs.
The attention being paid to climate change is much deserved but some advocates worry that it will revive many of the old alarmist debates on population and with it the calls for "population control" that almost always target poor women and women of color.
A bill supported by conservatives and progressives is now facing very serious opposition from a small but powerful group who stand to lose some autonomy in the workplace if this bill passes. Unless we show Governor Brown that California will not accept the blatant abuse of pregnant women, I’m afraid the bill will be vetoed.
