HB 156 would have required a physician to inform a pregnant woman at least 24 hours prior to the abortion that she has a right to view an active ultrasound and hear the fetal heartbeat, except in case of a medical emergency. The quality of the ultrasound image and the heart auscultation would have to be consistent with standard medical practice in the community.
This bill does not mandate an ultrasound.
If any disclosures are required, the woman must sign a statement that she was provided the requisite information and the signed statement would be stored in the woman’s medical file.
