Tenn. Code Ann. §§ 39-15-204, -205
Current
Tennessee law allows physicians and hospitals to refuse to provide abortion procedures.
TCA 39-15-204 states that no physician may be required to perform an abortion and no person may be required to participate in the performance of an abortion. Additionally, no hospital may be required to permit abortions to be performed therein.
TCA 39-15-205 grants hospitals the right to refuse to accept abortion patients.
The law, enacted in 1989, does not require refusing entities or individuals to provide notification or referrals to patients seeking abortion procedures.
