LD 972 would have required that a physician provide the following information in writing and orally 24 hours before performing an abortion to ensure that consent to abortion is informed: (1) a description of the procedure; (2) the risks of the abortion procedure and the risks of childbirth; (3) scientifically accurate information about the fetus including the results of an ultrasound or sonagram of the fetus; (4) the availability of medical benefits; and (5) the father’s liability for support.

The Department of Health and Human Services would have been required to develop a brochure that contains required information and provide copies to physicians and make the brochure available online. The physician performing an abortion would have been required to give a copy of the brochure to a woman seeking abortion.
