Arizona law currently allows hospitals and physicians to refuse to provide abortions, medication abortion, and emergency contraception if doing so violates their moral or religious beliefs.
Abortion Refusal
The law states that hospitals are not required to admit patients for the the purpose of performing an abortion. A physician, or any other staff member who states in writing an objection to the abortion on moral or religious grounds is not required to facilitate or participate in the medical or surgical procedures that will result in the abortion.
Contraception Refusal
The law states that pharmacies, hospitals, and staff members who state in writing an objection to abortion, abortion medication, emergency contraception or any medication or device intended to inhibit or prevent implantation of a fertilized ovum on moral or religious grounds is not required to facilitate or participate in the provision of an abortion, abortion medication, emergency contraception or any medication or device intended to inhibit or prevent implantation of a fertilized ovum.
If they refuse to participate in any of the services described, they must return to the patient the patient’s written prescription order.
