Melissa Moore, a South Carolina native, serves as the executive director for Charleston-based We Are Family, where she advances leadership development projects and support services for youth who have been marginalized due to their real or perceived sexual orientation and/or gender identity. A sociology graduate of the College of Charleston, Moore was published in the anthology Out Loud: The Best of Rainbow Radio, South Carolina’s first LGBTQ radio show. She is also a founder of Charleston’s Gay Pride celebration. In the past five years, she has tried to build a more inclusive South Carolina through her work with the Alliance for Full Acceptance and South Carolina Equality.
