Lon Newman

Family Planning Health Services

Lon Newman has spent the majority of his professional life advocating for the reproductive rights of Wisconsin women and their families. He is currently Executive Director of Family Planning Health Services in Central Wisconsin. A 2004 Robert Wood Johnson Community Health Leadership awardee, Lon opened the only contraceptive drive up window in Wisconsin in 2005 (one of only three in the United States). He has worked diligently to further the reproductive health and well being of Wisconsin families for over 20 years. His energy and commitment does not diminish as he continues to advocate locally, regionally and nationally for confidential accessible high quality reproductive health care.

The Down and Dirty Politics of Sex

The focus of this Congress, along with the presidential administration, must be on creating down-to-earth reproductive health care policy, instead of being swayed by battles over who holds the higher moral ground.

HHS Regs Would Cover All Religious Convictions

If new HHS regulations are adopted, family planning service providers could be forced to hire people who have moral objections to contraception and would be unable to discipline employees who refuse to provide birth control.

Get Me the Plan B Already!

Wisconsin's Family Planning Health Services put 20,000 emergency contraceptive pills in the hands of 10,000 women last year. Is preventing unwanted pregnancy as simple as that? Yes. And no.

Echoes of Change to Come

With a new presidential administration coming soon, this is the time for reproductive health advocates to speak up for health care policy change.

Pro-Life Wisconsin’s Spring Break Binge

Spring break is a good time for anti-abortion advocates and supporters of comprehensive sex education alike to call for sexual responsibility. Perhaps we can agree to exercise responsibility in our advertising too -- then groups like Pro-Life Wisconsin wouldn't run false and misleading ads about emergency contraception.

In Memoriam: Roe at 35

My mother's death helped me realize that there are parallel moral, ethical and spiritual issues at the end and at the beginning of life.
