Garnet Henderson is Rewire News Group‘s Senior Multiplatform Reporter.
Prior to joining RNG, she spent a decade as a freelancer reporting on the intersections of health and culture with a particular focus on reproductive health and abortion access. Her work has been published in The Nation, Cosmopolitan, ELLE, Scientific American, Marie Claire, VICE, Guardian US, WIRED, Glamour, Quartz, and other publications. She is also the creator, producer, and host of ACCESS: A Podcast About Abortion.
Garnet’s work has been recognized with numerous grants and awards. In 2022, she became one of the inaugural grantees of the International Women’s Media Foundation’s Reproductive Rights Reporting Fund for a project that was co-published in The Nation and on ACCESS. She is now a four-time grantee and fellow of the IWMF, for projects including a three-part series on Christian nationalism and the reproductive health crisis in Idaho, reporting on the consequences of a total abortion ban in the Dominican Republic and its disproportionate effect on women of Haitian descent, and investigations into abortion misinformation in Brazil and how members of the country’s far right are importing American anti-abortion tactics.
Garnet was born and raised in Jackson, Wyoming. She graduated cum laude from Columbia University and has lived in New York City since 2009.
