Lawmakers in the GOP-dominated Texas Legislature have failed to pass any meaningful policy changes to address the high rates of maternal mortality among Black women.
Colorado state Sen. Tim Neville, a leading anti-choice Republican, has supported "personhood" abortion bans and opposed a successful teen pregnancy prevention program.
Abortion clinics can offer free pregnancy tests so people can avoid biased counseling elsewhere, and health-care providers need to close gaps in their referral networks and their knowledge about abortion services in their areas.
This is no time for smoke and mirrors to cover a shameful history of inaction in a state that was once a national safe haven for people seeking an abortion.
“The greater focus ought to be on what is happening to patient rights and access to health care they need—in that context this clinic closure is pronounced,” said Francie Hunt, executive director Tennessee Advocates for Planned Parenthood.
A patient advocate with Planned Parenthood of Metropolitan Washington told her own personal abortion story and implored audience members to make personal appeals to senators in opposition to Kavanaugh's nomination.
If someone feels like ending their pregnancy is what they need to do, there is no reason why they shouldn’t be able to, and no reason why God would look down on them for it.
