An award-winning journalist with over 35 years of experience, she started her career clerking for Walter Cronkite and Dan Rather at CBS Network News, leaving there as a producer ten years later. During the intense healthcare reform debate President Obama occasionally mentioned HIV infections and AIDS-related illnesses as among those pre-existing conditions that could no longer be used by health insurance companies to automatically exclude consumers from health insurance coverage. Yet the broader scope and crisis of the HIV and AIDS epidemic in America failed to garner much attention.
