The Death of ‘Roe’ Is Giving Us a Lot of Feelings
With cocktails and community, Jessica Mason Pieklo and Imani Gandy processed the bleak Supreme Court hearing on Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health.
For more coverage on Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health, check out our special report.
Oral arguments for Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization on December 1 were nothing short of a dystopian nightmare—with close to two hours of anti-abortion talking points, Justice Amy Coney Barrett suggesting the availability of adoption makes abortion unnecessary, and Justice Clarence Thomas occasionally muttering something about throwing pregnant people who use drugs into jail.
After that, we all needed to process what happened rather than just screaming alone into the void. Your favorite podcast hosts, Jessica Mason Pieklo and Imani Gandy from your favorite podcast Boom! Lawyered, hosted a Zoom happy hour to feel their feelings.
Special guests included:
- Elie Mystal, the Nation‘s justice correspondent
- Andrea Grimes, Texas journalist
- Lizz Winstead, co-creator of the Daily Show and host of Feminist Buzzkills Live! (Jess and Imani were guests on the show’s first episode!)
They laughed, they drank (our exclusive cocktail, the Roe Gin Fizz—watch for the recipe!), they called Justice Brett Kavanaugh a punk—alongside community, commiseration, calls to action.
