Diana Greene Foster, PhD, is director of research at the University of California San Francisco’s Advancing New Standards in Reproductive Health (ANSIRH) and professor in the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences. Dr. Foster is a demographer who uses quantitative models and analyses to evaluate the effectiveness of family planning policies and the effect of unintended pregnancy on women’s lives. She leads the Turnaway Study, a nationwide longitudinal prospective study of the health and well-being of women who received and who were denied wanted abortions in the United States. She launched the Global Turnaway Studies, a collaboration of scientists to study incidence and consequences of abortion denial for women across the world.
