Migrating to the United States is not without risks. Many people are detained along the way—or worse. For unaccompanied immigrant children like Linda (a pseudonym), the subject of illustrator and designer Pablo Leon’s Rewire comic “The Journey,” being detained in a youth shelter is also part of the process. But what happens upon release?

In part one of “The Journey,” we learned why Linda migrated. In part two, we found out about the young migrant’s detainment. In Leon’s final installment of one of the only comics to follow the migration of a young person from beginning to end, we learn what life is like in the United States as an undocumented minor. There are all the things readers might expect—loneliness, language barriers, pressure to assimilate—but there is also resistance to anti-immigrant laws and the tidy narratives that discard undocumented parents.

Linda may have made it to the United States, but her journey continues.
