What to Expect on the New Season of Boom! Lawyered

While there might not yet be a big abortion case on the docket, there's plenty we’re keeping an eye on after a Supreme Court summer of scandal.

Back-to-school is in full swing and the start of the Supreme Court term is just around the corner. That can mean only one thing: Boom! Lawyered returns on Friday—and we’re raring to go.

After a Supreme Court summer of scandal, co-host Imani Gandy and I have a lot of thoughts about the Court, the upcoming term, and the state of our rights and democracy. In addition to heading into the first presidential election since the overturn of Roe v. Wade, the conservative movement has gone full-throated authoritarianism with trans panics, book bans, and a renewed push to redefine who gets to be a person in our society—all of which we’ll be tackling next week, so more to come there. And thanks to phenomenal investigations by outlets like ProPublica, we have a much fuller sense of just how compromised and corrupt the conservative justices really are.

We’ve got so much to get into, and the season is just getting started. This season, we’re returning mostly to audio, so be sure you’re subscribed to your favorite streaming service. We’ll also release video podcasts in the form of special monthly livestreams on YouTube. Save the date for the first one: Thursday, October 5 at 7 p.m. Eastern.

Now, back to the Court. While there might not yet be a big abortion case on the docket, there’s plenty we’re keeping an eye on, including a significant disabilities rights case and another that could grant domestic abusers the right to own firearms. That’s all without the Court stepping into medication abortion or abortion clinic bubble zones, either.

These are some of the big issues on our radar for the upcoming podcast season, but we want to hear from you, too. What kinds of issues or cases would you like us to talk about? Give us a shout on one of our social media platforms (Twitter, Instagram, or Facebook) and let us know!

It’s gearing up to be one helluva season, and I can’t wait to see y’all on the tubes.
