The Hyde Amendment: Codie, Claire and 40 Years of Harm
Codie had an abortion in New Mexico, and the cost left her wondering if she’d have to sell her car to pay for it. Claire is from Kentucky, but the closest clinic was in Tennessee; it cost her a week of time and nearly a month’s wages to obtain her abortion.
For 40 years, the Hyde Amendment has blocked the use of federal funding to pay for most abortion care or coverage, and as a result, millions of women across the United States have experienced suffering and discrimination, just like Codie and Claire.
Yamani Hernandez from the National Network of Abortion Funds, Ravina Daphtary from All* Above All, and Cristina Aguilar from COLOR join Claire and Codie in this hard look at the Hyde Amendment and its 40 years of harm.
