National Network of Abortion Funds Campaign Site Returns After Cyber Attack

“An attack to the Bowl-a-Thon website is an attack on the people who rely on us for help, and an attempt to cut-off resources to those who need them most,” wrote Yamani Hernandez, executive director of the National Network of Abortion Funds.

National Network of Abortion Funds (NNAF) officials announced Friday that the organization’s Bowl-a-Thon fundraising campaign site was back online, after it was the target of a cyber attack this month.

Yamani Hernandez, executive director of NNAF, told supporters in an email that they could once again donate to local participating abortion funds through the site.

“Out of an abundance of caution, we temporarily disabled the full functionality Bowl-a-Thon website as we are actively investigating this incident and are coordinating with law enforcement,” Hernandez wrote. “We will keep you, our community, updated as the investigation continues.”

Emails with anti-choice messages were sent from NNAF’s email address this month to supporters of the organization. The incident was the second time in a week that the website had been the target of a cyber attack.

Cyber attacks by anti-choice activists have become a growing concern for reproductive rights advocates in recent years.

“An attack to the Bowl-a-Thon website is an attack on the people who rely on us for help, and an attempt to cut-off resources to those who need them most,” Hernandez wrote. “This attack is just one more in the unending violence and harassment of people who seek and provide abortion care.”

This is the final week in the NNAF’s annual Bowl-a-Thon fundraising campaign, and the organization has raised more than $600,000 toward its goal of $800,000.
