During the Rams vs. 49ers game in St. Louis on Monday night, activists and members of the community participated in protests outside and inside the arena to continue a day of civil disobedience as part of the Ferguson October “weekend of resistance.”

As banners unfurled on the inside of the arena, chants echoed against the massive stadium while fans exited—some showing solidarity with the protesters and others voicing support for Officer Darren Wilson, who killed unarmed Michael Brown on August 9.

During the protest taking place outside the arena, some drunk fans verbally and physically assaulted protesters while protest organizers maintained a calm rarely mentioned in media reports. One female organizer, for example, went over to the fans and told them to get over it and go home.

The protesters also continued the action while a construction worker attempted to move barriers they were sitting on, which were set up to block traffic. An official from inside the arena eventually reversed the order to move the barriers, but the worker seemed content to move a huge crane incredibly close to protesters. During it all, the protesters remained calm.

The evening ended with a moment of silence and words from members of the grassroots organizers. Despite the negativity of some of the fans, others joined in with the protest and held their hands up in solidarity.
