- A city council member in Washington, DC, is proposing that pharmacists in the city be permitted to dispense birth control. David Catania says that he’d like to see the city make preventative medicine more available to people without an expensive visit to a doctor. If the city approves the legislation, it would move on to the city’s Board of Pharmacy for authorization. As for the FDA, a spokesperson for the agency called it a “gray area.”
- Pennsylvania Governor Tom Corbett has fired six state employees in connection with Dr. Kermit Gosnell’s illegal abortion practice. Others have resigned. Gosnell is being held without bail on eight counts of murder.
- NARAL New York is looking into the expense account practices of its former president, who left the organization last month.
- Lisa Edelstein (who plays Dr. Cuddy on ‘House’) has filmed a pro-choice ad for MoveOn.org, showing woman opening a closet and seeing a wire coat hanger. The voiceover, in part, says, “So when the Republican Party launched an all out assault on women’s health, pushing bills to limit access to vital services, why is the GOP trying to send women back … to the back alley?”
