Morning Roundup: FACE Violation Suit
The DOJ sues on a FACE violation; SBA List wants a anti-choic-ier chairman of the RNC; Gardasil protects against anal cancer; and a place to vent your worst sex education advice.

- The Department of Justice is taking action against an anti-abortion protester who they claim violated the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances Act (FACE) at a Louisville clinic in January 2010. David Hamilton was cited for disorderly conduct after an incident where it was claimed he pushed and shoved clinic escorts, but the charge was dropped after he performed eight hours of community service. The aim of the DOJ lawsuit is to prevent Hamilton from coming within eight feet of anyone entering or performing services at that clinic. Which will likely not be an issue, as he recently moved to Houston, TX.
- The Susan B. Anthony List wants to influence the choice of the next chairman of the Republican National Committee. Claiming they can reach 500,000 activists, they want to ensure that the chairman makes restricting women’s reproductive rights a priority. The current chairman, Michael Steele, said last year that abortion is an individual choice. The Hill reports: “’It is critical that the next RNC chairman not only be pro-life, but be prepared to use his or her position to advance pro-life values,’ said SBA List President Marjorie Dannenfelser in a statement. ‘We look forward to vetting candidates on their stances on Life and how they would advance these causes as RNC Chairman.’”
- Gardasil, the HPV vaccine, is now approved by the FDA as a prevention vaccine for anal cancer. Ninety percent of anal cancer is caused by HPV. Gardisil was originally approved as prevention of cervical cancer, which can be detected early with a pap smear. Anal cancer is usually not detected early. If you need a little cultural relevancy, Farrah Fawcett died of anal cancer.
- H/T to the Good Men Project, which turned my attention to a new blog, Bad Sex Ed, where people can submit the worst advice (or misstatement of facts) they ever got in sex ed class. My favorite: “My (very Catholic) sex ed teacher told us that she ‘couldn’t guarantee that oral sex wouldn’t result in pregnancy’ because ‘there’s just no telling what could happen in there.’” Scary stuff.
