Roundup: A Picture and a Thousand Words

A roundup of quotes, and a little prochoice pictorial to start your week off right...

Today’s roundup is a little different than the usual.  Instead of stories, here is a hodgepodge of excellent quotes from the last few days.

Rasna Warah on abortions in Kenya: “We worship the unborn foetus but not the woman who bears it for nine months. And when the child is born, we worry less about her future than about whether she was baptised or circumcised according to religious or ethnic edicts.”

The Tomah Journal on Wisconsin D.A. Southworth’s letter to Juneau Schools about providing sex ed in classrooms being prosecutable: “Southworth’s letter is absurd on many levels. First, it’s a leap to assume that teaching factual material about contraception encourages anyone to have sex. Does presenting factual material about the impact of alcohol consumption encourage students to drink?”

Gary Brauer on a possible prochoice pick for the next Supreme Court justice: “Here’s some good news. By replacing Stevens, Obama, thankfully, is not going to change the ideological balance of the Supreme Court.  Moreover, Senate liberals, many of whom need to be back in their states campaigning for reelection, are not looking forward to another high-profile fight.”

Missouri’s regional Right to Life Director on the state’s proposed new abortion restrictions: “If that relationship is built on taking money from a vulnerable pregnant woman facing an uncertain future, the community has an obligation to help where we can. Two lives depend on it with each abortion considered.”  (From a letter entitled “Abortion Bill Protects, Not Restricts Women”)

And if that was all too many words, than Via Feministing, how about a pictorial reaction to the subway’s “Abortion Changes You” campaign.

Mini Roundup: Last week I discussed a movement to not pay taxes because they fund abortions.  A man in Canada has done exactly that.  One of his supporters applauds his efforts and encourages more people to do the same, although, of course, he himself paid his taxes on time.
