Sebelius is Confirmed as Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS)
NARAL Pro-Choice America staffer Molly wrote a quick post on the confirmation of Kathleen Sebelius and our Three-for-Three campaign and I wanted to share it with you... One down, two to go!
In what has been a news cycle full of interesting and important stories – swine flu and Sen. Specter’s party switch – the hardworking staff at NARAL Pro-Choice America wanted to make sure that you didn’t miss out on our first Three-for-Three campaign victory… the U.S. Senate confirmed Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius as our next secretary of Health and Human Services!
Here’s the official statement from Nancy Keenan, president of NARAL Pro-Choice America:
We applaud the Senate’s vote to confirm the eminently-qualified Gov. Kathleen Sebelius to serve in this critical position. Anti-choice advocates tried every desperate trick in the book to derail her confirmation, but this vote shows that a majority of senators understand that Americans are tired of the antagonistic politics of the past. As our country faces challenges on a number of fronts, especially on the issue of affordable health care, we look forward to ensuring that women’s health and sound science are a priority, rather than the failed political maneuvering that damaged this agency during the previous Bush administration.
Do you know that more than 22,000 activists sent messages to the Senate in support of Sebelius’ nomination? Yep. We totally did, and we couldn’t have done it without you. So a big huge thank you for those of you who helped make this first win possible.
And now of course, as is the nature of a campaign you name "Three-for-Three" – it’s full-steam ahead to the next Obama nominees: Judge David Hamilton and Prof. Dawn Johnsen. One down, two to go. So take action, and let’s make it happen!
