The Supreme Court returned for its new term this week, and what’s at stake? Oh, just the fate of Roe v. Wade. Chaos in the abortion world is at an all-time high, so buckle up!

We were expecting the Supreme Court to effectively overturn Roe in the Mississippi 15-week abortion case, Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, but instead they effectively gutted Roe under the cover of night via a shadow docket ruling last month on Texas’ six-week ban.

To make matters worse, not only is Texas SB 8 the most restrictive abortion ban to ever get the stamp of approval from the Court, it deputizes Texans to act as bounty hunters against providers and anyone else who helps people access abortion. This has set off its own set of lawsuits, including one over Dr. Alan Braid, who spoke out about performing an abortion after six weeks so that he could be a test case to challenge the law. We have no choice but to stan.

To help you make sense of all the legal chaos stretching from Mississippi to Texas and everywhere else, hosts Jessica Mason Pieklo and Imani Gandy are back for another season of Boom! Lawyered. Listen to learn what to expect when you’re expecting one of the worst Supreme Court terms in history. Pun heavily intended.

Jess and Imani return to the mics for:

  • The latest in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization—and how Jess and Imani will cover oral arguments
  • Welcoming the Department of Justice to the party and what’s next with Texas SB 8
  • Some special shoutouts to the advocates on the ground doing the work. (More on this with Jess at a special Zoom event on Tuesday!)
  • What not to bring to a cookout
