An edited excerpt:

Jess: I sincerely think, based on your summary of the Presidential Records Act, that nobody in the Kavanaugh camp knows it exists or intends to follow it. Because, literally, it’s a law that says, “Hey presidents, the things that you produce while you are in office, and those who were working for you producethose belong to the American people, not you.”
Imani: Right. And that matters, because as NPR’s Nina Totenberg once pointed out, “The confirmation process is the last chance to affect the least accountable branch of government.”
Jess:  She’s absolutely right. The confirmation process is the only time the American people are going to see and hear Brett Kavanaugh speak for himself to his records and to his views. We don’t get a vote on his nomination directly. This is the only way, and so Republicans are making it nearly impossible.
