SB 271 would require medical facilities that provide abortions to administer anesthesia to an unborn fetus when aborted if it is older than seven weeks.
A person in violation of this requirement would be subject to conviction for a misdemeanor, imprisonment from six months to one year, and/or a fine between $1000 and $5000.
The bill also provides that when, during the course of an abortion procedure, a fetus is aborted alive, all available medical means must be used to preserve its life.
A person in violation of this requirement would be subject to conviction for a felony, imprisonment from one to three years, and a fine between $1000 and $5000.
STATUS
Similar to SB 223, SB 48 and HB 2083, all of which failed to pass in 2014.
