SB 617 would have amended Virginia’s informed consent law (Va. Code § 18.2-76), to repeal the forced ultrasound requirement.

It also would have removed the requirement that the basic information required to be provided to the patient be provided at least 24 hours before the abortion. The bill would have simply required the information to be provided at some point before the abortion. The bill also would have removed the requirement that a patient be provided a list of public and private agencies that provide ultrasound imaging for free.

STATUS

This bill passed the Senate on February 11, 2014, but then died in House Courts of Justice Committee.

Companion bill to HB 1056.
