SB 1277 would have required health insurance policies issued or renewed on or after July 1, 2015, to include coverage for any prescribed drug, device, or product approved by the FDA for use as a contraceptive. Under current law, such coverage is required to be offered and made available as an option. Such coverage would not be required in any policy, contract, or plan that does not otherwise provide coverage for prescription drugs.
