SB 575 would amend the Insurance Code to prohibit a qualified health plan offered through a health benefit exchange, as administered by the federal government or created under the Affordable Care Act, from providing coverage for an abortion unless the abortion is necessary to prevent death or a serious risk of substantial and irreversible physical impairment of a major bodily function, other than a psychological or emotional condition. The bill does not contain an exception for rape or incest.
The bill would authorize individuals to purchase supplemental coverage for elective abortions, but would require a separate premium to be paid for it and a separate contract to be signed for it.
