HB 1049 would make it a prohibited practice for a physician or an applicant for a license to practice medicine to perform an abortion on a pregnant patient unless the abortion was necessary to avert a serious health risk or death, to remove an ectopic pregnancy, or if the patient is pregnant with multiple fetuses, the abortion is necessary to ensure that at least one “unborn child” is born alive and healthy.
Any physician who violates this provision would have their license revoked.
If passed, the law would take effect on September 1, 2017.
