Full Bill Text
SB 30 would amend Tennessee law to create a strict definition of “husband,” “wife,” “mother,” and “father” so as to exclude those that do not fit the traditional meaning of the words.
The bill states:
…the words “husband”, “wife”, “mother”, and “father” shall be given their natural and ordinary meaning, without forced or subtle construction that would limit or extend the meaning of the language and that are based on the biological distinctions between men and women, except when a contrary intention is clearly manifest.
If passed, this bill would negatively impact the LGBTQ community, such as same-sex parents and transgender people.
