Full Bill Text
S. 435 would prevent the federal government from asserting its own definition of “marriage” and “spouse” on the states.
The bill would require the federal government to follow the law of a person’s legal residence in order to determine their marriage status.
The bill would effectively nullify the marriage of same-sex couples who married in one state and moved to another state where such unions were illegal.
