HB 1157 would require physicians to provide to patients seeking medication abortion medically unproven information to fulfill state-mandated informed consent requirements.
In order to complete a medication abortion, two drugs (Mifepristone and Misoprostol) are administered independently of each other. This bill would require physicians to inform their patients that they may be able to stop or reverse the abortion if they do not take the second drug.
Specifically:
“That even after a pregnant mother takes Mifepristone it is still possible to discontinue a drug-induced abortion by not taking the prescribed Misoprostol.”
The bill further states that information on discontinuing a drug-induced abortion would be available on the Department of Health website.
