HB 818 prohibits insurance carriers from offering coverage for abortions in the health insurance exchanges set up under the Affordable Care Act unless the reason the abortion is performed is one for which public funds would be permitted under 18 Pa. Cons. Stat. § 3215(c) (i.e., to avert death of the pregnant woman, or if the pregnancy resulted from rape or incest, and the rape or incest was reported to law enforcement).
The bill does not forbid purchasing coverage for abortions outside the health insurance exchange and paying a separate premium for it.
STATUS
Companion bill to SB 3.
