HB 1182 would prohibit the performance of abortion except when necessary to prevent the death of the pregnant person or to prevent a serious risk of substantial and irreversible impairment of major bodily function of the pregnant person.
The bill would expand the definition of “unprofessional conduct” to include the performance of such an abortion.
The bill would allow the State Board of Osteopathic Examiners to refuse to issue or reinstate, or to suspend or revoke any license issued or reinstated by the Board upon proof that the applicant or license holder has performed such an abortion.
Prohibition
The bill would amend state law regarding persons who may perform abortions to prohibit any person from performing or inducing an abortion. Any person other than a physician who performs or induces an abortion would be guilty of a felony. A physician who performs or induces an abortion that isn’t necessary to save the life of the patient or prevent impairment to their health would have his or her state license to practice medicine suspended for at least six months and be fined at least $500.
The State Board of Medical Licensure and Supervision would revoke the license of an allopathic physician performing an abortion in Oklahoma. The State Board of Osteopathic Examiners would revoke the license of an osteopathic physician performing an abortion in Oklahoma.
