S 7863 would amend current law regarding fetal death certificates to require a fetal death be registered and reported after an expulsion of a fetus of any gestational age.
In the case of a spontaneous fetal death at any gestational age, the hospital would be required to inform the mother of the fetus that it is her right to access the report of the fetal death and to direct either burial, entombment or cremation of the fetal remains.
Any costs associated with the release, burial, entombment or cremation of these fetal remains would be borne by the mother.
