SB 2801 would prohibit any county, municipality or other political subdivision from adopting or enforcing a local law, ordinance, resolution, rule or policy that creates a protected classification or prohibits discrimination on a basis not contained in state law.
The bill states that the intended purpose of the law is for “ensuring that businesses, organizations and employers doing business in Mississippi are subject to uniform nondiscrimination laws and obligations.”
If passed, local measures enacted to protect LGBTQ people would be prohibited, and any such measure that existed prior would be null and void.
