Full Bill Text
SF 1278 would require health plans to cover all FDA-approved contraceptive methods and sterilization procedures, and related medical services, patient education and counseling, while not imposing any cost-sharing requirements.
The bill includes an exemption that would allow religious institutions to decline offering the coverage for their employees based on their beliefs. Religious employers that choose to deny coverage would be required to provide written disclosure to all employees and job applicants.
A written disclosure would need to contain the following information:
- Detailed information about the benefit being withheld;
- The cost, if any, that the employee/applicant may incur as a result; and
- Detailed information about the availability of contraceptive coverage through the health plan offered by the employer.
