SF 298 would provide for the issuance of “Choose Life” license plates. In addition to all other fees required for registration under state law, each applicant for the initial issuance of a “Choose Life” Plate would be required to contribute $25 annually to the choose life account.
The bill would require the commissioner to adopt a design for the plate that includes an image of a child’s footprint in the design area on the left side of the plate and the inscription “Choose Life” on the bottom of the plate.
Contributions collected under this provision would be deposited in the choose life account, which is established in the special revenue fund. Money in the account is annually appropriated to the commissioner of public safety. This appropriation is first for the annual cost of administering the account funds, and the remaining funds are for distribution in collaboration with the commissioner of health proportionally among agencies or organizations that receive positive abortion alternatives grants.
Typically, eligible organizations include crisis pregnancy centers.
CPCs have come under increased scrutiny over the last several years, as investigations have revealed that centers across the country have provided inaccurate information and neglected to follow proper medical protocols. (Source.)
