Maine law allows private institutions, physicians, or other employees of such institutions or physicians to refuse to provide family-planning services when such refusal is based upon religious or conscientious objection.

The law, enacted in 1973, does not require refusing entities or individuals to provide notification or referrals to patients seeking family-planning services.
