Full Bill Text

Louisiana law prohibits a hospital, clinic, or other medical or health facility, whether public or private, from ever being denied governmental assistance or being otherwise discriminated against or otherwise being pressured in any way for refusing to permit its facilities, staff or employees to be used in any way for the purpose of performing any abortion.

The law prohibits an abortion from being performed on any woman unless prior to the abortion she is advised, orally and in writing, that she is not required to submit to the abortion and that she may refuse any abortion for any reason and without explanation and that she shall not be deprived of any governmental assistance or any other kind of benefits for refusing to submit to an abortion.

The law, enacted in 1973, does not require refusing entities to provide notification or referrals to patients seeking abortion services.
