Iowa Forced Ultrasound Bill (HF 573)
This law was last updated on Oct 29, 2018
HF 573 would have required that prior to performing an abortion, a physician must certify in the woman’s medical record that the woman has undergone an ultrasound imaging of the fetus; that the woman has been given the opportunity to view the ultrasound image of the fetus; and that the woman has been given the option of hearing a description of the ultrasound image and hearing the heartbeat of the fetus.
This bill is virtually identical to HF 58, which was withdrawn on March 12. The bill is sponsored by the Committee on Human Resources.
