Full Bill Text
HB 1525 would prohibit transgender students from using school facilities or participating in an athletic program that corresponds with their gender identity.
The bill would require student facilities in public school buildings to be designated for use by female students or male students and may be used only by the students of the biological sex for which the facility is designated.
The bill defines “biological sex” to mean the physical condition of being male or female, as determined by an individual’s chromosomes and identified at birth by the individual’s anatomy.
The bill defines “student facilities” to mean a locker room, restroom, or shower room that is designated for student use and accessible by multiple students at the same time.
In any school setting in which a student may be in a state of full or partial undress in the presence of other students, school personnel would be required to ensure that separate, private areas are provided for use by female students and male students based upon the students’ biological sex.
Athletic Programs
If a public school corporation or charter school designates athletic programs as either athletic programs for males or athletic programs for females, a student may participate only in the athletic programs corresponding to the student’s biological sex.
