Illinois Pregnancy Help Center Referral Act (SB 1595)
This law was last updated on Mar 19, 2017
SB 1595 would prohibit a person from performing an abortion unless the person first provides the pregnant patient with the contact information of a crisis pregnancy center.
The bill would require such person to first provide the pregnant patient with the name, address, and telephone number of an organization that:
- is within reasonable proximity of the abortion facility where the abortion will be performed;
- has as one of its principal missions to provide education, counseling, and other assistance to help a pregnant mother maintain her relationship with and care for her unborn child; and
- does not perform abortions, is not affiliated with any physician or entity that performs abortions, and does not refer pregnant mothers for abortions.
If passed, the law would take effect immediately.
CPCs have come under increased scrutiny over the last several years, as investigations have revealed that centers across the country have provided inaccurate information and neglected to follow proper medical protocols. (Source.)
