Idaho Bill Regarding Abortion Reversal Information (S 1131)
This law was last updated on Jul 5, 2017
S 1131 would require the department of health and welfare to include additional information regarding abortion reversals and ultrasound opportunities to be made available to physicians hospitals or other facilities providing abortion and abortion-related services in order to fulfill informed consent requirements.
The bill would require information directing the patient where to obtain further information and assistance in locating a health-care provider whom the patient can consult about chemical abortion, including the interventions, if any, that may affect the effectiveness or reversal of a chemical abortion, and informs the patient that if they want a consultation, they should contact those health-care providers before they take the abortifacient.
Current Idaho law requires that the patient be informed of their right to view an ultrasound image and to hear the heart tone monitoring of the fetus. This bill would amend this language by replacing “hear the heart tone” with “observe the heartbeat” in the text of the law. The bill does not mandate ultrasounds.
