HB 756 would allow businesses to refuse to provide goods and services for weddings or ceremonies with which they disagree.
The language of the bill would not only allow a business to refuse to provide goods and services for a same-sex wedding, but would also allow a business to refuse to provide goods and services to a religious organization they don’t agree with.
The bill states that no sole proprietor or business can be required to sell goods or services to “a religious organization or for a religious or matrimonial ceremony” that may violate that seller’s right to free exercise of religion.
The bill defines “religious organization” to mean a church, a religious school, an association or convention of churches, a convention mission agency, or an integrated auxiliary of a church or convention or association of churches, when such entity qualifies as an exempt 501(c)(3) organization.
