HB 4722 would have required the Michigan Department of Health to develop and disseminate to the public information on emergency contraceptives. The bill also would have required the health department to consult with medical and public health organizations to develop and disseminate to health-care professionals, facilities, and agencies, information on emergency contraceptives.

The bill includes legislative findings that emergency contraception does not cause abortion, that the use of emergency contraception could cut the number of unintended pregnancies by half, thus reducing the need for abortion, and that a public awareness campaign will help remove barriers to emergency contraception.

STATUS

Companion bill to SB 370.
