Medication Abortion

Full Bill Text

HB 1086 would require a physician who prescribes the abortion pill or a referring physician to inform the pregnant patient orally and in writing that after taking an abortifacient pill, a chemical abortion may be possibly arrested or reversed.

Except in the case of a medical emergency, at least 24 hours prior to the abortion pill or RU-486 being prescribed or an abortion being induced, the physician would need to orally and in person, inform the patient of the following:

  • That it may be possible to reverse the abortion, but that time is of the essence; and
  • That information and assistance with reversing the effects is available in state-prepared materials.

Failure to comply with such requirements would provide a basis for a civil action, civil fines, and disciplinary action.

The bill would require the department to publish information regarding abortion reversal on their website. The information includes a link to, a program of Culture of Life Family Services.
