Alaska Heartbeat Ban (HB 302)
This law was last updated on Jul 22, 2020
HB 302 prohibits abortion after the fetus has a detectable heartbeat. This bill makes it a felony for a physician or other health care to provide an abortion on a fetus that has a detectable heartbeat unless it is medically necessary.
A fetal heartbeat can be detected as early as six weeks of pregnancy—two weeks after a person’s first missed period—and well before many even realize that they are pregnant.
