SB 120 would allow those authorized to solemnize marriage in Alaska the right to refuse participation if the marriage violates their religious beliefs.
Such participation includes solemnizing a marriage, providing services, accommodations, facilities, goods, or privileges for a purpose related to the solemnization, formation, or celebration of a marriage.
The legislation focuses on individuals authorized to solemnize a marriage in Alaska Statute 25.05.261 (a) (1) or (3). This includes, but is not limited to, ministers, rabbis, priests, and judicial officers of the state.
